Welcome to Oasis: Commission of Social Ministry Portsmouth/Chesapeake
Oasis is a private, not for profit, charitable corporation. Our mission is to provide comprehensive services to the homeless and the less fortunate in Portsmouth, Western Chesapeake and Northern Suffolk. Please check out our 2012 Accomplishments!
Operating, uninterrupted since 1970, Oasis has been continuously meeting the basic socio-economic needs of this region. Celebrating over 43 years of community service, Oasis was birthed by five local Catholic Parishes. Today it has evolved into an ecumenical multi-serving agency committed to helping individuals and families to meet their basic needs and to support their efforts of self-reliance and independence.
Oasis realizes its ministry and self-sufficiency mission from its Williamsburg Avenue and County Street location. Services are coordinated in a manner to enhance and to avoid duplication of other community service efforts.
Oasis, in partnership with individual donors, local businesses and several citywide, state and federal agencies works passionately to fulfill its compassionate mission of SERVICE.
The Oasis Social Ministry office is open Monday through Friday, 9:30am until 2:30pm.
The Oasis Thrift Store is open Monday through Friday, 8:30am until 2pm.
Donations are received 8am to 3pm Monday through Friday.
